The United Kingdom
The British Islands are located in northwestern Europe. They consist of two main islands – Great Britain and Ireland. These islands are "geographical" features. But these two islands are shared by two different countries: The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland and The Republic of Ireland (EIRE)
The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (or just simply The UK or Great Britain) is formed by four nations:
- England
- Scotland
- Wales
- Northern Ireland (in the island of Ireland)
They are all British. The capital city is London.
The Republic of Ireland is a different country, which is not part of The United Kingdom, and its citizens are Irish. The capital city is Dublin.
Each of these countries has its own unique culture, history, and attractions, making the British Isles a diverse region to explore.
Here you have a presentation with the map of the British Isles and the countries in them.
